Entry from: Verona, Italy Entry Title: “Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo…” Entry: “Verona is home to Shakespeare’s fictional yet legendary couple. In actuality, the feuding Montagues and Capulets were inspired by the Montecchi and Capellos families from the area. Since, the city has fully empraced the Romeo and Juliet story. They have Juliet’s house (balcony and all) as well as Juliet’s Tomb. All fictional, but all swarming with romantic tourists writing their names on the wall in a heart with that of their own lover’s (including ours). The city just feels romantic. The old town is perfectly laid out with Italy’s first pedestrian only streets lined with beautiful buildings, ancient ruins, and gelato shops. Maybe that is why Shakespeare picked Verona for the story in the first place. That fact has only accentuated the romantic nature of this fair city. Verona doesn’t have a lot of sites to see, but it is truly Italian and perfect to stroll around and soak up the Italian way of life. Stroll is what we did upon arrival after settling in to our hostel. We took our time walking the old city window shopping, people watching and of course sampling some fabulous gelato.
