Leading F1 journalist David Tremayne unravels the mysteries of modern Grand Prix car design. The authoritative, extensively illustrated text explains just how an F1 car works, and this revised and updated third edition includes new material about the rules changes introduced for the 2009 season. The philosophy and technology behind the chassis, engine, transmission, electronics, steering, suspension, brakes, tires and aerodynamics are analyzed, and the important question of how these parts and systems interact is explored. This is an absorbing insight into the secretive and technology-driven world of racing car design at its highest level.

Edited – From AstraJOM’s video. The only video i’ve ever seen showing footwork in Formula 1. Driver is Spanish Pedro de la Rosa from Arrows. Most of the pilots use their left foot for braking because it’s quicker than using only right foot for both braking and accelerating. Also karting is the reason of this habit i can say. I give an example of right foot brakers as Rubens Barichello; by the telemetry data, he was slower than Michael Schumacher in fast corners because smooth and quick pedal movements is determinant especially in fast corners.

SICP / What is “Computer Science” ?

Hal Abelson gives an introduction to the “Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs” lecture with an explanation of Declarative and Imperative programming. Excerpted and adapted from Hal Abelson, “Introductory Undergraduate Subjects in Computer Science”:- 6.001 differs from typical introductory computer science subjects in using Scheme (a block-structured dialect of Lisp) rather than Pascal as its programming vehicle. The subject’s developers feel strongly that Pascal is hopelessly constraining, and that important ideas (such as functional programming and object-oriented programming) can be addressed within Pascal only awkwardly, if at all. In addition, they consider top-down hierarchical design, so often emphasized as a central theme in computer programming subjects, to be a minor and relatively simplistic strategy in the programmer’s arsenal for attacking complex problems. mitpress.mit.edu
