Italy travel: Rome, one landmark after another with Perillo

Italy travel: Rome, back on the Perillo Tours bus. This video shows one landmark after another, including a 2000 year old apartment building. Two staircases to the Senatorial Palace, one designed by Michaelangelo. The wedding cake/typewriter monument to King Victor Emanuele II. Trajan’s Market. The Roman Forum. Of course each place would have been worth thorough exploration, but we were happy to sit and be given an overview tour. Italy travel: Rome, more Catacombs, with Perillo Tours of It

Italy travel: Rome, video of more catacombs, and the most elaborately decorated crypt of our tour. All of the Apostles are drawn on the inside of the arch, such that the occupant(s) would ‘see’ the drawing. The person who was laid to rest here must have been very important to warrant such a tomb with a view. On our Perillo Tours of Rome we have gone from the Sistine Chapel to this painted arch in the Catacombs. Both artists worked on their backs for a long time to perform their tasks, but the artist in the catacombs did it by candlelight amongst the stench of 10000 decaying corpses. Probably rats and flies, too. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). Italy travel: Florence walk, and Perillo Tours bus footage t

Italy travel: On our way to Pisa! Florence Ponte Vecchio. We had more time later for exploration. This footage is our Perillo Tours Familia walk back to our hotel, and some footage from the bus. First, a river rower contemplating the minor waterfall of the Arno River. (Interestingly enough, Pisa also lies on the Arno River, despite the 90 minute drive between the two cities!) Then some hillside villages on the way to Pisa. We passed a true Roman water aqueduct, which would certainly have been worth a stop. We’re on our way to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Italy travel: Rome. The Catacombs, with Perillo Tours of Ita

Italy travel: Rome, the Christian Catacombs (beginning). Unlike the Catacombs in Paris, these catacombs had no bones. However, it was a rather amazingly intricate and extensive network of tunnels! The video shows that you wouldn’t want to play ‘hide and seek’ here. The one that we visited had tens of thousands of bodies interred in it’s time. All the half arches you see in this video held a body or two (or more); the tiny spaces held children. Our Perillo Tours Familia walked single file down these narrow corridors. The sterility of the current presentation belies the magnitude of 10000 corpses decomposing; the stench must have been overwhelming. Italy travel: Rome, Pantheon with Perillo Tours of Italy

Italy travel: Rome, our Perillo Tours Familia inside the Pantheon. The video shows no internal supporting structures in the center! The Pantheon was “originally built as a temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion of Ancient Rome. It is the best-preserved of all Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history” according to Wikipedia. This video segment ends with one of the Roman gods.
