It was a happy reunion for Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell as the two kick-started X Factor auditions in LA over the weekend. Paula was just confirmed as the show’s fourth judge, which means we’ll be seeing the return of Simon and Paula’s awkward flirtatious chemistry, and the two didn’t disappoint as they took a moment to kiss for the cameras. This isn’t the first time Simon and Paula have declared their love for each other with a peck on the lips. Back in season four of American Idol, Simon grabbed Paula for a smooch during auditions . . . Randy: “Oh, they’re kissing again.” But who can forget their over-the-top, open-mouth kiss way back in season 2? The first preview of the US X Factor is out and Simon Cowell is showing that he has a sense of humor about his American Idol past by mimicking his old show’s signature style. The preview starts off with a dream sequence where Simon is back behind the judges table with Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and LA Reid. All of them have sodas in front of them like they do on Idol, and the contestants are seen bursting through the audition doors. You almost expect to see Ryan Seacrest waiting for them. Then to cap it all off, Simon drives away in what looks like a car commercial. It’s clear they got their inspiration from Idol. The only thing out of place with the Idol parody is the inclusion of a nice Simon, but all that ends when Mr. Cowell wakes up. The video makes it clear that the old Simon — and all his unfiltered honesty — is back in a big way.
