This is great. I have found from quote a lot of musicians that hang out at
guitar forums etc they are fundmentalist theory pushers. Even if say I was
to ask politely about playing by ear and said I did not want a debate of
theory verse playing by ear, i will get first post someone pushing exactly
that lol Why IS that? Bach never studied theory and his music is just
amazing. Jimi hendrix never did –I listened to his Voodo Chile on Saturday
and was SO overcome by the mindblowing soulful power of his playing I was
overwhelmed and started fukin crying!
Thanks, man. Great vid!
will you please do hourglass – been gone to long?
You are the man.
I was going to ask you to do a lesson on how to approach songs when
learning by ear, but you read my mind I guess. I would really like to see
another lesson like this for other songs. Thank you.
Rolling Stones: Blue Turns To Grey…please, pretty please!!
In my top five favorite Stones songs!
I’m surprised to hear you skipped this song, its one of my favoritees
Great info, thanks for sharing. Personally my trouble lies in picking out
solos by ear, a lesson on picking out solos by ear would be awesome. I’m
sure my weakness is just not knowing scales well enough to pick them out by

California) There are some versions. Please wrote back and tell me what do
you think ;] Can you cover this?
That comment is so meta, I don’t even know where to start…
nd it’s a mini obsession to try to get that right chord or pattern. Oh
well, what do I know…Eddie Van Halen can’t touch Bach but, yet each
brings a unique plate to the buffet.
I too was surprised to learn that you hadn’t given the song a serious
listen, but at the same time – with all the music that you do listen to….
In any case, I would bet you’ll want to listen to it more now, certainly
one of my favorites. Great job on this “How-to” tutorial. You have a great
way of teaching, and I have shared your channel with a number of guitarist
friends. Thanks man.
you make it sound easy lol. wish i had your ears. regards Clive
Since you’re on a Stones kick, would it be possible for a lesson on “Miss
Amanda Jones?” (BTW, what do you think of the new Stones song “Doom &
Nice video! Could you do Fire and Rain by James Taylor? I’ve been obsessed
by this song lately!
Good example of how to pick out a song by ear. I do this with various
degrees of success, but some songs are more complex than others, as we all
know. Like early Neil Young, it’s sometimes tricky to figure out where he
is tuned, or what pattern he is picking. Thanks for all your help!
I’m shocked you don’t listen to this tune. One of my favorites. Thanks for
