@ThisIzTheEdge you have to remember that mariah put her interpretation on it so of course its not gonna sound like steve perry. As a musician you have to look at every piece of music as its own entity even with covers because no one is gonna sound like the original. Mariah has an untouchable melissmatic husky yet powerful voice. In her version i believe she put a feminine touch on this song and she interpreted it well. I felt the emotion.

Wow. People are saying Mariah Carey’s voice is ugly? Who, in their right mind, would say that Mariah’s voice is ugly? Even if you’re not a fan, to say that Mariah cannot sing means that you must be either insane or completely tone deaf and ignorant. You may not like her as a person, but that voice…is one of the greatest voices ever. The best, in my opinion. You are stupid if you think that it is not good.
Mariah is an incredible singer…BUT…Steve Perry’s version sounds so much better. Mariah sings it, Steve Perry OWNS it! There are these subtle little ways his voice is that makes it so much better, like the part that goes “wanting you neaaaaar” – suddenly gets this stretched out sound that MC’s version doesn’t. I was really hoping to like MC’s verison when I first heard it. And her studio muscians – come on now, they pale in comparrison to the MASTERs in JOURNEY- Neal, Ross, Cain, Smith!!!

Perry himself praised her on the song and even endorsed it. Perry was such a musician that he recognized her talent and the voice she has. Stupid idiots…. smh.
