A Well-Done “Super-Expansion” with a Couple of Hints for the Frustrated,
As I always say, I am not an avid “gamer,” but I have been playing CoH/CoV for years, on and off. “Going Rogue” is, as one reviewer already pointed out, a “super expansion” that allows the player to be more or less morally ambivalent up to level twenty when you must choose your character’s “good” or “evil” destiny. This means more story arcs, new foes, and a refreshing update far more pleasureable to the casual player than the “Architect” edition, although that is not a negative comment on “Architect.” I did run into some problems though, and I am going to discuss those and their basic “fixes.”
1) This game has gotten huge. This means that before you purchase it, you MUST make sure your PC meets minimum requirements, although I would recommend much more if you want the game to run smoothly. I am not sure “minimum requirements” listed on the box will cut it anymore.
2) If you install and encounter terrible “lagging,” the simple solution is to play in “safe mode.” This will reduce graphics to their minimum, but the game is so well designed, I cannot see any meaningful difference between “safe” and “normal” mode, with perhaps the exception of a shade more sharpness and brightness. To get to “safe mode” is easy. When the game starts, log in. After the updater screen finishes, you “accept” and this takes you to the next small box scren before you actually begin playing. At the bottom right, there is a little white box marked “safe mode.” Click it, and you should have no problems. If you do, the log in screen has a button that will take you to the NCSoft community website. It is full of helpful posts written by polite and patient folks and has a great and simple search function.
3) For a new player, let me also say this. NCSoft has superior customer service, and their rates to play have not risen significantly at all over the years. I have never been less than 100 percent happy with the courtesy, competence, and patience of their staff.
So, if you are looking for a MMORPG, I cannot recommend this line highly enough. And if it gets old, leave it on your computer and come back to it in a few weeks or a couple of months. It always seems to be fresh again.
Recommended!

|Great MMO,
For those that are either sick of hack n slash fantasy mmo’s or just fans of comic books this game is all for you.
At the start you’ll see it has the best character customization of any mmo period. More costume sets are available in packs for purchase, but trust me you aren’t lacking for choices out of the box. The odds of your character looking like someone else are virtually nil. Even the power colors and sometimes the animation can be customized.
The Going Rogue collection allows you to either have your hero fall from grace and become a villain or to redeem your villain and make him a hero. These are infinately repeatable if you so choose and there is no way to “accidently” flip alignments. Typically takes about a week to go from hero to villain and vice versa.
The missions (quests) have a difficulty slider so if you want more xp/loot, you can up the difficulty, it’s your choice. Missions types are quite varied, from dank caves to otherworldly terrains. Soloing is possible, certain archtypes will have more trouble than others but if you really want to go it alone you can regardless of what you pick. The game really shines though when you’re on a team.
The “raids” as such are called taskforces (heroes) or strikeforces (villains). The are multi-mission arcs that give a great reward at the end and only need 4-8 people to start but can take a few hours to complete. Once you start you can’t do any other missions until you finish or drop the ‘force. This makes a great break from other games where you need 25-40 people to raid and then after hours of raiding, you roll poorly and have nothing to show for it. The loot is awarded randomly to everyone so no one fights or ninjas anything.
If the ingame content isn’t enough there is user-generated content as well. Anyone can do this and it’s relatively easy to start out. So if you want to get your creative groove on, again the game gives you another option.
Best MMO I’ve played since 2004, and never stopped subscribing. Even with the release of That Other Game.

|I’d rather be a superhero,
Unlike most games where it is all about colleting stuff and fighting other players, City of Heroes allows you to bring out your inner super hero. The new going rogue expansion allows you to change your character’s perspective. Are you superman, the shining hero, or are you Batman, the dark knight? With this expansion you can custom tune your characters to be a good, or evil as you wish.
