the singing part always gets me. It makes me question just how crazy ophelia is and how aware she is of what happened to her and what is happening to everyone around her.
I don’t tend to rate Ophelias, since it’s all about the interpretation. But this Ophelia really encompasses a lot of different ideas about the character, so all in all I think Kate Winslet did a very good job. But in the end each portrayal of these characters say something about them, so I think it’s important not to rank one more highly. I personally like Doran’s ‘Hamlet’ above others because it fits my interpretation but that doesn’t make it the best. Just my favorite.
She isn’t my favorite Ophelia, and there are aspects of this that I don’t like, but overall it’s well played. I just felt the flower scene should have been stronger, and there should have been more movement.
the only flower she gives herself… rue… has powerful abortive qualities leading lots of scholars to believing that she may have been pregnant when she died….
When I watched this in class I found my heart being drawn into the story, with Ophelia, who’s heart is obviously broken and who’s faith and sanity have been stripped from her. She has lost everything…
I don’t think he really did mean to reject her. I personally think that it was all part of his pretending to be mad. The whole is-he-really-mad-or-is-he-just-pretending thing really comes into mind in this version twice; at the scene where Polonius dies, when Hamlet sees his father’s ghost and his mother doesn’t and she asks him what is he looking at. The other is when Hamlet confronts Laertes during Ophelia’s burial and yells about how much he loved her.
Yes I know she’s gone mad; I’ve read the play
Yeah…Hamlet going mad, then him rejecting her, and then him killing her father (but I don’t know if she knew if it was an accident). She was one of the only innocent characters but she got quite screwed…
Because she went mad. The fact that it’s all caused because of her father’s accidental death by Hamlet, who thought it was Claudius and whom Ophelia thought loved her is what makes it so tragic.
I found the first part of her madness, where she’s kinda humping, to be kinda amusing…
but this part, this part is just so… disturbing. Her little laugh, and the imaginary flowers, her face is still pink from crying, and the song… oh, it’s just so terrible to see her so broken down…

what act and scene is this

this makes me realize how really fragile the mind is. A few unfortunate events can make the most sane go insane.

Her and Helena Bonham Carter are play Ophelia so well. They actually have an understanding of what Ophelia is going through mentally. <3
a great piece of acting
She sings so well?
She plays insane soo well…hmmm

her chuckle is so cute
This is how I pictured Ophelia. It just breaks my heart.

Well, no one out-crazies Ophelia
I’ve never much liked Kate but in this I have to admit she is wonderful.
Happy bday to my favourite actress today, turning 36. One of my favourite roles of hers.
the flower that she “gives” gertrude actually means aldutury
