…and even then, Bob Dylan is massively overrated and more than a little bit self-inflated. John Lennon over Dylan as a songwriter any day of the week.
Agreed – Dire Straits are like the opposite end of the scale to Dylan. They never wrote sprawling poetic stories; just simple, beautifully simple songs, and that’s the key to their success. Even ‘epics’ like Telegraph Road are still very simple narratives about humble, everyday shit. I think their sound is far more important than their lyrics, whereas with Bob Dylan I’d say his words were what made the music.
… sorry … ! But this is my opinion.
Have you ever listened to Blood on the Tracks? It’s one of the best albums by Dylan. Listen to it if you haven’t and I think you’ll like it a lot , if you like him!

DYLAN? I see nothing that would resemble – especially verbally… ! Dylan’s lyrics are usually long and often are like “stories” . And most is kind of political, “dense”. Dire Straits sound is brilliant, like Dylan’s is too, his guitar was very good! , but Dire’s lyrics are more to the here and now and “lighter” . ( well I am refering to the older stuff which was REALLY good and worth listening to)
