Bob Kasper’s Sting of the Scorpion: A Fundamental Guide to Knife Combat Reviews
Bob Kasper’s Sting of the Scorpion: A Fundamental Guide to Knife Combat
This is a book about knife combat – it is about carrying a knife as a deadly weapon and, when the need for deadly force arises, knowing how to use it. It is about a fighting knife, how to carry it, how to draw it and how to engage it in a kill-or-be-killed situation.” Bob Kasper left no doubt why he wrote this book. Many of you may already be familiar with Kasper from his writings in Tactical Knives magazine; his knife designs, especially the Scorpion; or his practical instruction in the tactics, techniques and procedures of edged-weapon combat. Those of you who never had the chance to train with, correspond with or read his writings are in for a treat.

A practical and highly effective guide to basic knife combat.,
The late Bob Kasper will be missed for his simple and direct approach to self-defense and especially to his knife combat philosophy. I never had the opportunity to train with the author but I had heard of his skills and read his Street Smarts column in Tactical Knives. In this volume is the essense of his knife system. It has ten chapters dealing with the type of knife to carry, the basic grips, the guard, the draw, movement, basic principles, and the slash and the thrust. The final chapter, which he calls the battlefield, emphasizes the importance of learning unarmed combat methods and techniques in conjunction with any weapon training. In conclusion, the beauty of this book is in its simplicity and efficient approach to knife combat. I give this book my highest rating of 5 stars.

|Great for a Primer,
I was disappointed in the level of detail you get with this book. I will take part of the responsibility for that. I should have known with a paperback with this many pages, you wouldn’t get a lot of density. If you are looking for a good, very basic, intro into knife defense, this might be for you. If you are looking for a detailed “how-to” with descriptive photos, etc., look elsewhere.

|THIS GUY WAS THE “REAL McCOY”!!!!!!!!!!,
I haven’t ordered this book yet, but in reading the other reviews, I felt like sharing my first-hand training experience with Mr. Kasper. A student of mine discovered Bob and set up a wkend to train w/ him & his buddy, John(?). This was 3-19-94, Bob was a GREAT host, welcoming us into his home … we trained in the back room of his home. Went to eat afterwards. He allowed us to video our training. Bob seemed to never run out of energy!?!?! … He stayed up w/ us late … watching training films … talking ’bout corresponding w/ others training in CQC who lived in England … Bob said they traded info by phone & tapings … then he showed us some footage these buddies training in Defendu/o … really interesting material … Bob was EXTREMELY knowledgable in his field … to say the least!!! His cat tryin’ to manipulate Bob into givin’ him a treat was hilarious fun!!!
Bottom line … BOB KASPER was a genuine person & martial technician!!!
sincerely,
