“They will tremble again at the shound of our shilensh.” – You can’t help but love Connery’s complete ignorance of the fact he’s supposed to be playing a Russian.
@MasterBattle2000 I really doubt any submarine crew would be so patriotic to start yelling their national anthem all the sudden and remaining doing so while ignoring a nearby hunter killer wich is the ship biggest threat… i mean, until Ramius asks the sonar crew if the 688 is following them they didnt knew if the 688 could track them or not ..but all the bridge keeps singing loud.. Even if the enemy cant ear you,you simply dont ignore a big treat.. and 688s were their bigest nemesis back then
@sparrowlt Yes Sir, i got what u mean coz I’ve been checking out those youtube videos on the lifes inside a russian typhoon sub. It’s really a huge boat. I’m sure those sailors serving inside one of these boats must have felt real proud and invincible back then.
This scene is iconic and epic , tought in real life the crew would had shut up the instant the sonar reported a nearby enemy contact..specially a 688 class. that was by far russian Boomers main concern and threat.. you simply dont ignore your main worry and keep singing like if nothing else mattered..
@nwl213 Actually Typhoon class subs had many luxurys onboard that are unheard for in any other sub.. they had gymnasium.. swiming pool, sauna and individual cabins for all the crew.. it was a really big submarine with a standard crew complement so they had plenty space and they were meant to expent long patrols under the ice or even long periods as command ships in the case of a total war.. the real bridge while not as “futuristic” as this one looks really spacious and functional (look for pics)
@boffinboy100 Oh yes, shorter and reallistyc. When the British guy asks himself “How Ramius do to convince their mariners to abandon the nuclear sub?” Tom Clancy -before writting this act of disgusting propaganda- would know that there was a real nuclear sub which suffered failure (The K-19) and she was recovered by the Soviet State for further investigations, she was not drowned. So since beggining this story is stupid.
@Kriegerdammerung
The political officer said if the KGB or GRU had any agents on board, he wouldn’t know. The GRU is military intelligence and KGB commitee of state security, so it was most likely a KGB operative, and as Ramius had served the USSR for many years faithfully, they probably didn’t think more would be necessary. but if they had ten, the film would be very much shorter.
Quetion to Hollywood: Why is no one on a Russian battle submarine able to speak properly Russian?
They first guy who starts to sing sounds like an Italian trying to speak Russian.
