NASCAR The Game 2011 has been built from the ground up to make a thoroughly new experience. Eagerly anticipated, but ultimately disappointed,
I really wanted to like this game. I generally don’t write reviews, let along negative ones, but this game was such a let down I had to speak my mind. I knew that being for the Wii this game would not match up against the next-gen versions or PC based racing sims and I was prepared for that. What I wasn’t prepared for was a game that was a step backward from the old PS2 EA NASCAR games from a few years ago.
The graphics are bad even for the Wii. The jagged edges of the track and the flickering of the really detract from the sense of racing. These get worse in the two player split screen. It reminds me of the old PC NASCAR games from the 90′s.
The controls do not allow for any finesse while driving. If you use the wiimote/wheel or the default classic controller settings the gas and brake are on/off buttons. You can configure the classic controller to use the joystick for the gas/brake but it seems to only give you a middle step in the acceleration.
The cars push in the corners even if you loosen the setup, it is almost impossible to get a car to roll through the corner. As others have said, there seems to be a huge disconnect between the controls and the car.
Lastly, it only allows you to have one profile. How very shortsighted of the developers.
The real test of how much fun this game is came from my 8 year old son. He will play any video game, regardless of the graphics. He plays NES Wii Console games and likes them. He loves racing games, even the much derided Indy 500 Legends for the Wii. You could say he had never met a game he didn’t like, until today. After playing it for about 2 hours he said he was going back to the Indy 500 game because it was like racing.
Since giving up our PS2 for the Wii a few years ago I had been waiting for a new NASCAR game. Like I said, I really wanted to like this game. While I played it I kept searching for some good quality in it, but eventually I just had to give up. I am returning the game to Amazon, this is the first time I have ever returned a game.

|Nascar 2011,
If you want Nintendo Graphics from the late 80′s then this is your game. Save your money or rent or borrow before you buy. This game is falsely represented in the advertisements. The demo screens are great but the graphics are terrible during actual play.
The excuse I got from Activision was

Hi, John,
Unfortunately, most games designed for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 must be compromised on the Wii, since the console can’t handle the best graphics. In this case, there isn’t a way to adjust the graphics. Typically in-game movies are formatted differently than the actual gameplay graphics, which explains why the intro movie looks so much better. We apologize for the inconvenience!
Thanks for contacting Activision Technical Support and have a great day!

If this is the case they shouldn’t advertise such nice graphics and then stick you with such terrible quality. I traded it for Mario Kart. True it isn’t very realistic (neither is Nascar 2011)but the graphics are great.

|Don’t buy this game.,
Where do I start? I was so excited to get this game after getting rid of my PS2, since I have been without a NASCAR game since getting the Wii. When I finally got it, I was very happy and played with it all afternoon. The excitement diminished and then left altogether.
The graphics are bad, understandably, but even worse than they should be. Cars seem to float in midair when spun. Points are awarded and are displayed on the screen directly in front of your car, so you don’t know when the turn is coming up. Cautions are always on but sometimes don’t come out. As others have said, after two laps of driving backwards, the caution finally flew. The car has NOOOOO possible adjustments to be made. Air pressure, wedge, shocks, nothing. There IS a little bar that says tight or loose, but even with the car set up all the way loose, it still pushes up the racetrack and smacks the wall for no reason. The bottom groove of the track seems to slow your car down a lot. I dropped from 150 mph to 100 mph in one turn at Las Vegas…no reason for it. The controls with the wii remote, the wheel, or the nunchuk are completely useless. You simply can’t steer the car right. It pushes up the track all the time, you can’t be precise. Worst of all, there is no substance to the game. Only one profile is available and no on-line game play. The Nationwide, Camping World Truck, and Whelen series are completely gone, even though drivers from those series are available to drive in the Sprint Cup series in imaginary cars… The lack of big drivers Regan Smith and Joe Nemechek also ticked me off…Why did we as Wii owners have to wait 3 more months to have all the old paint schemes and drivers???
Please, save your money, people. I returned my game as well. It is a gigantic disappointment. I got Mario Kart and am happy with that, but it doesn’t supplement my want for NASCAR racing. That’s why I repurchased a PS2 and got my NASCAR 2007 Game back. Much better now. Guess I’ll wait another 3 years and maybe they’ll get it right…
