Troublemaker: A Barnaby and Hooker Graphic Novel, Book 2
There’s no smooth sailing for Alex Barnaby and Sam Hooker in the second volume of bestselling author Janet Evanovich’s graphic-novel adventure, Troublemaker. Barnaby, Hooker, Rosa, Felicia, and Beans the St. Bernard set sail to the Florida Keys in order to find the wooden body of Baron Samedi that matches their recently acquired – and stolen – wooden hand. But in the world of petro voodoo a hand for a hand and a Baron for a boat is fair play. When the Happy Hooker disappears from its mooring in the Keys, Barnaby and Hooker have to find a way back to Miami with the stolen body of Baron Samedi. Ransom notes for the Happy Hooker, a sack of snakes, and a ticked-off chicken, leave only one place safe enough to hide a body… Hooker’s mom’s house

Well, at least the colors are pretty,
If you didn’t care for the first installment in Troublemaker 1, you’ll like this one even less. The plot is thin and weak. Because it’s so short there’s no development–a few loosely connected events, a ridiculous resolution that comes out of nowhere, and bam, it’s over. There are bits that neither contribute to the overall story line, nor provide sideline humor–the snakes, the chicken, Hooker’s mom. The supplemental events in Evanovich’s earlier novels added to the overall fun factor of the book but these do not. The plot itself is not compelling; there’s no urge to turn the page to see what happens.
The drawings are attractive and competently done but they don’t add anything so fabulous that it compensates for the lack of substance. I.e., looking at the artwork is probably not going to make you ooh and ah enough to distract you from the fact that the story is lame and boring. In other graphic novels, the illustrations and the text equally share the responsibility of telling the story. The pictures try hard here, but since there is so little story to tell the effort still pretty much falls flat.
Don’t waste your money–skim the book at the store (unless you’re taking time to appreciate the illustrations it’ll take just a few minutes) or borrow it from your library. I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way.
1. The book has been out since November 23 and as of today there’s only one other review. Other Evanovich books have gotten scads of reviews in their first week.
2. Other Evanovich books in my state library system have had wait lists of over 200 people right after they were published with the library system ordering scores of copies. When I checked for this one, there are only 6 copies in the entire state. There was absolutely no wait list and 4 of the 6 copies were NOT checked out. After reading Book 1, it seems that everyone said why bother?

|Trouble Maker,
It was a gift, would never have bought it, silly crazy story line, great art work, but not anything I would buy again.

|Don’t bother,
It’s a hard cover comic book! I couldn’t believe it. I have read and enjoyed Janet Evanovich’s novels but this is rediculous. I returned the book and I would give it no stars if I could
