how does an actor, artist etc. get his name on the walk of fame?
i don’t understand how do you get one of this stars?
I know her family:) the ones she was thanking
@MrDanbloom – Just because there is a fee for the installation of a star on the Walk of Fame, does not mean the recipient did not earn it. It is not even possible to just “buy” a star no matter what anybody tells you.
A person must be nominated and will only be selected if their contribution to the Hollywood economy warrants it. Yes the stars are paid for by studios sometimes, other times they are paid for by family, fans and other supporters – the price pays for installation and upkeep.
You should have asked me. There is a Hollywood committee that meets to approve all the folks that apply for stars, but it’s either the star, the studio, or when some celebrity passes a way, their fan club that comes up with the money. It was simply a PR gimmick that over time became an accepted cultural institution.
And yes, most of the time the emperor is no wearing clothes.
R-
Bill Maher got,er, paid for, his STAR in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
yesterday and announced it on Larry King show on CNN, where Larry also
bragged about his own , er, paid star….BUT THESE ”STARS” ARE PAID
PR, they cost US$25,000 each, the “stars” or their studios PAY for the
right to have a star, it’s all timed for release of new movies or
books or show…..google it
Roger Ebert the film critic, one of the best in the biz, who got his own star in 2005, wrote: “To be chosen for the Walk of Fame is an honor. The costs associated with the manufacture and placement of the star are paid for by someone–a studio, network, publisher, record company, etc. Everyone knows that. But stars are not for sale.”
All these Walk of Fame events are paid marketing and PR events that the studios pay for to the tune of US$30,000 and arrange 12 months in advance to coinside with a new movie release or book release in order to get free publicity shots in newspapers worldwide. Both the Hollywood touism office benefits and the studio’s marketing team benefits and the star gets some added PR, and the star pretends to be so surprised and “honored” when in fact the “award” is NOT an award or an honor,, it is PAID PR
