why the fuck is katy perry’s firework in the reference on the side… mother fuckers!!!! Don’t corrupt the great Knopfler with ur shitass plastic productions! This is REAL music for REAL people…
@lynx48k Oh come on, there was plenty of crappy, shallow music being made in the ’80s. Remember the “Hair bands”? Remember all those idiots doing coke and trying to look like Don Johnson? Remember David Lee Roth shaking his butt in the camera? You are just being nostalgic about being young.
@SeeJess same im only 13 and sadly i had to “discover“ this music on my own, because my parents are not music people. It really sucks cause I go to school and mention music i like and people are like, who is that.
@lynx48k And what do you suppose the generation before yours said about the music you grew up with? I understand your point, I do, but generalization is such a nasty thing, don’t you agree? Just as there are plenty of youths who do just as you said, there are also plenty who appreciate other forms of music. Besides which, there are still some wonderful performers in this day and age. Don’t be so quick to condemn what’s new and different. Variety, as they say, is the spice of life, my friend.
Sorry, I preferred the killers cover, but that’s just me, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
And another thing, I hate douche-bag hippies that think they’re something special because they were born in the 70′s, you’re so cute.
Note…the presumably inadvertent appearance of the internationally-recognised hand gesture for “wanker” at 1:02. (pointed out to me by Alexis Petridis).
Lady Ga Ga and “no-name black guys” are expressing themselves in their own ways just as Dire Straits were. People relate to different kinds of music in many different ways. Girls and boys now-a-days were raised in a completely different environment than the 80′s. Environmental factors are going to have an effect on the way humans act today – girl or boy. And if you ask me, peace of mind is much more important than winning a spelling bee.
@SeeJess i agree with you pal. im only 17 and i discovered decent music like dire straits led zeppelin etc my parents didnt introduce it to me. and i know loads like me. it goes to show that this generation isnt entirely hopeless
@lynx48k And lastly. The worst of our modern music is made by people who are all talk and no show. Some have really truly great stories. Maybe your “great spelling” and “you young-uns” superiority-talk is a good sign that you never did live in your own time. Get over it. Talking about phonies makes you sound like a phony! Get off your high horse and find new music, or if you prefer stuff from your generation, don’t critique ours. Socrates knew the limits of his own knowledge. Know yours.
Also, they’re not “no-name”. They go by names like Jay-Z, K’Naan, B.I.G., and many others, and Bob Dylan has said of rap in his “Chronicles” book that he is very appreciative of its place in modern music, especially early rap artists like Public Enemy. You’re only watching MTV. There is real music being made today, plenty. It’s like saying there was no real music in the 60′s based on what you watched on TV. You had to go to a real show, or be part of the art scene to hear anything.
@lynx48k Dismal dishwater music? “Black guys”? Please don’t say “They just don’t make them like this any more,” go watch an art show or a good film by a modern director, or any music video by Michel Gondry. Maybe a music video by Radiohead. Please, I enjoy the best of your generation like many others my age: recordings were made so that music would never die, but there is no “golden age.” There is just as much good material today. And. A lot of it is by “black guys.” Grandpa.
You say Hannah Montana I say The Rolling Stones
You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles
You say Justin Bieber I say Journey
You say Taylor Swift, I say Creedence Clear Water Revival
95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you’re one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don’t let the spirit of rock and roll die! Semper Fi!
very very good the best band of the 80;s
why the fuck is katy perry’s firework in the reference on the side… mother fuckers!!!! Don’t corrupt the great Knopfler with ur shitass plastic productions! This is REAL music for REAL people…
