As a matter of fact, towards the end of the 80′s people focused more on MJ and Janet. She didn’t blow up until the end of the 80′s. BUT when she did, she took over 86-2001. How would peope focus more on those artist when she was Making Music history? If she was overshadowed she would’ve ended up like Paula abdul, ect.
(No offence to Paula)
I didn’t say everyone overshadowed Janet or that Janet was not successful. It’s just that, imho, Janet is underrated because at the time–and legacy wise–ppl focused more on MJ, Madonna & Whitney.
great video. I’m glad Janet paid homage to Cab Calloway, the Nicholas Brothers…and what can you say about Cyd Charisse. She took millions of people’s breaths away decades earlier. I remember when i saw her in this video, looking so great and still dancing (with Janet!), it put a smile on her face. Cyd was a class act…
@cecillbill She was on the ame level as all those artist. How was She overshadowed when she has the most SUCESSFUL/MOST ATTENDED Debut tour of all time? For a debut tour you’re lucky enough to 200,000-500,000 people to show up, but over 2 million people show up to a DEBUT TOUR? And almost grosses 100 million? And on top of that, Janet’s first 5 albums MADE HISTORY! She was winning awards like it was nothing with just 2 albums!! People such as Britney Spears,TLC, aaliyah, etc aren’t overshadowed.
But, that is not to discount the fact that Janet was still one of the biggest artiists of that time, did influence others, and her hit songs were just as known as the other big hits, if you heard Michael Jackson at a party then you heard his sister Janet Jackson, and Whitney, and Madonna. You heard them all!
Janet got overshadowed not only by her brother Michael Jackson, but also by Whitney Houston & Madonna (in the 80s and 90s) who were all bigger worldwide, plus her contemporary singers who were megastars had more powerful vocals than her, such as Whitney Houston and Tina Turner (rock phase of 80s/90s), or were worldwide style icons such as Madonna. Janet had a big niche, and had people come under her who were infleunced by her style (JLo and Paula Abdul), but got overshadowed.
I love this music video, she needs more credit for being a singer and being able to dance incredibly well the way she’s dressed in this video reminds me of Michael in Moonwalker when he’s running away from Mr.Big. I love all the dance steps in this and how happy she looks
Does anyone know the tune that is playing at the beginning of the video?

@xoxofashiionista I know I am….it’s great that at least some of the great artists from the 80s and 90s are still around to entertain us
This song never gets old to me…and the dancing in the video is really great
A single from the only album in history from a artist to have number ones in 3 consecutive calendar years.
i wish i lived in a city like this. neighborhood dance parties every nite!
